STD’s Awareness Month, held each April, is an opportunity to raise awareness about sexually transmitted diseases, including their impact on our lives and the importance of STD testing and treatment.
We need to take out a panel from American’s book about this important health care issue in India and dedicate a month to spreading awareness among our population. It is a very important part of our life.
There are millions of Indians who are suffering from STDs like HIV, Gonorrhea, Syphilis, Herpes, Virginities, etc and the spread of these diseases is at an alarming rate due to ignorance and stigma attached to these diseases as well as when it is due to general embarrassment. Comes while discussing this uncomfortable topic.
STDs are usually spread through sexual contact, but some of them can be spread through skin-to-skin contact.
Preclusion is always better than cure, and in this case, a concerted effort by government, NGOs, and the private sector is needed to raise awareness on how to avoid these diseases (most STDs by using condoms). Can be prevented), as well as how to treat it.
Unlike the U S, we do not have widely available testing facilities in our country, many more such testing facilities need to be established, and this is where the government and the private sector need to work together. There is a need to build mobile testing units so that rural areas of our vast country can be reached.
Doctors and other medical staff in India need to donate their time and expertise for this type of project to be successful. Schools, colleges and other educational education should educate their students about the prevention of these diseases.
Press especially Indian TV channels need to channel their resources behind promoting Awareness Month as there is hardly any coverage and public interest on this topic (HIV being the only exception).
Internet is another medium which should be used for gathering data and spreading awareness about these widespread problems in our country which are not much discussed yet. Still, we will try to reach out to our Indian people better.
This article is my humble attempt to spark a public debate on the importance of tackling STDs in India. If you think this is important and have other ideas on how we can promote STD Awareness Month, I would appreciate it if you would leave your comment below and share this post via Face book, Newsletter and Twitter to help spread the word.
Bottom line –
If you have to face this type of STD’s problems in your life. For better assessment, you should visit a good sexologist and physician.
